The new salary certificate has been obligatory since 01.01.2007 in most Cantons. It is used for the tax returns of employed persons and constitutes the basis for the deductions of individual persons. The new salary certificate is the same throughout Switzerland and replaces the certificate which has been in use for more than 30 years. It is obligatory for the certification of salaries and optional for pension statements.
The new instructions are much clearer and make it easier to recognise whether income is subject to tax or not, what social deductions can be made and which benefits do not have to be declared.
